- Applelink: MEMORYBANK
-
- Ann Arbor, Mich., 4 Sept 91:. . . Memorybank Incorporated is now shipping the
- next generation in its Memorybank series, the Memorybank II™, a desktop
- subsystem that offers the highest capacity hard disk and tape backup available
- for Macintosh™ networks.
-
- The new Memorybank II triples the capacity of its predecessor, offering up to
- 2.7 Gigabytes (GB) of disk storage and up to 5.0 GB of tape backup capacity.
- With a new configuration, the more compact design easily fits on a desk.
-
- The unit features Hewlett-Packard hard disk drives, each with
- 1.35 GB of capacity, a 13.5 millisecond seek time and a “fast” SCSI interface
- capable of transfer rates up to 10 megabytes per second.
- A 1.03 GB Micropolis disk drive is also available. Both disk drive models are
- covered by a full five-year warranty.
-
- Memorybank II also features a unique “no tools” assembly, allowing disk
- capacity to be easily expanded. Users can add a second disk drive without so
- much as a screwdriver.
-
- The tape backup system is a 5.0 GB Exabyte™ 8mm tape unit, offering fast
- performance with a maximum transfer rate of 500 KB/second. A 2.5 GB Exabyte
- unit is also available with a maximum transfer rate of 246 KB/second. The tape
- drives are covered by a one-year warranty.
-
- Memorybank II is now shipping with Memorybank Software 4.0, the latest version
- of the popular disk management/tape backup software developed for the original
- Memorybank series. The software offers “live” server-based AppleShare™ backup,
- allowing fast, unattended off-hours backup at a Macintosh server without
- shutting down AppleShare. This feature allows server backups at speeds of two
- to six times faster than workstation-based backup systems. Other software
- features include multi-zone workstation backup, restoration directly to any
- workstation, catalog-driven file restoration, a powerful audit file capability
- and System 7.0 support. Memorybank Tester™, a disk/tape diagnostic utility is
- also included.
-
- Memorybank II list prices start at $9,900 and all models are currently
- shipping.
-
- Memorybank Incorporated, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, was formed in 1990 as the
- result of an agreement with Northern Telecom Incorporated to provide marketing
- and sales, software development and support for the Memorybank product line.
- The Memorybank series has been marketed since 1987 and has a customer base
- which includes most Fortune 500 companies using Macintosh networks.
